| Coastal Research and Design Division |

Coastal Zone and Shoreline should be monitored forever, while collecting social, economical, environmental, and shoreline data, which are required for the management of shoreline, coastal resources, and coastal disasters. Researches, on identified issues through the monitoring processes, should be performed to discover the facts about them. Proposals for the Management of shoreline, disasters, and resources should be design, after the investigations for careful exploration of the facts.
The data, generated through the above processes should be stored, manipulate, and analysis for decision making. Coastal Research and Design Division takes care of above matters; Coastal Monitoring, Research, Investigation, Design and Information; while
sharing
data and providing coastal engineering expertise to the other agencies when ever required. |

| Coastal Resources Development Division |

|
The Coastal Resources Development Division is responsible for the functions and activities in respect of the administration and custody of the coastal zone, and development of coastal resources. Development Regulatory System, which will assess all development activities in the senses of sustainable uses of the resources, and mitigation of the environmental impacts, is active for the management of the development activities within the coastal zone.
The division is also responsible for the formulation and implementation of National, regional, and Site specific coastal resource development plans and strategies, integration with the other relevant agencies and the community, to create the optimum values for the resources. In the plans and strategies, the user conflicts, social, cultural, economic, and environmental problems, make aware the public regarding the importance and sensitivity of the coastal environment, will be addressed. |

Shore and the Coastal Environment are the basic resources, which differentiate the Coastal Zone from the inland. The shoreline and the Coastal Environment should be managed, dealing carefully with the natural environmental processes, to enhance the Coastal Resources for best suit uses. The Coastal Works Division is responsible for the implementation of Shoreline Management Projects and maintenance and development of the department properties. The Shoreline and the Elements of the Coastal Environment should also be maintained and rehabilitated, by works division, to the National Standard.

| Monitoring and Evaluation Division |

|
By the Sri Lanka Government, the Sustainable Development of the Coastal Sector has been assigned to the Coast Conservation Department, and the Goals have been setup by the Department accordingly. Each division and Projects will perform to achieve the goals, through the predefined programs and activities. Real-time Monitoring & Evaluation will assist to direct the programs to achieve the goals efficiently and effectively. Post Monitoring and Evaluation will also feedback the effectiveness of the programs and activities setup on departmental Goals. Real-time and Post Monitoring and Evaluation of the departmental programs and projects are the responsibility of Monitoring and Evaluation Division , while communicating those information to the Higher Authorities.

| Coastal Zone Operations Division |
|
|
|
Laws and regulations plays major role in coastal zone management. For the enforcement of the laws and regulations, separate Coastal Zone Operation Division has been established in the Department. The CZO division is taken care of the laws and regulations are in order within the coastal zone.
Coastal Zone is vulnerable for the several hazards, which results adverse effects to the civilians, properties and environment. The CZO division is in operation, with the trained experts, for mitigating the adverse effects of such disasters. |

All the programs and project needs funds for the implementation of their activities. Finance Division is responsible for making available the estimated budgetary allocations from the Government annual budget and communicates the financial performances to the relevant authorities. Maintaining financial data and analysis of them for the decision making will also make available.

For the achievement of the department goals, the human resource management is most important. Evaluation of the staff adequacy and assessment of their capabilities to carry out the programs and activities should be done periodically for filling the gaps by recruiting the staff and training them for the identified areas. The Administration Division is responsible for the Human Resource Management in the department, not only to address the above matters, but also the promotions, transfers, discipline of the staff members and making comfort working environment to keep them happier.
